Postdoctoral Appointments

The benefits postdocs are eligible to receive, as well as the method of payment (wages vs. stipend) are determined by the appointment. There are three current types of appointments:

  • Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee (Title Code 3252)
  • Postdoctoral Scholar - Fellow (Title Code 3253)
  • Postdoctoral Scholar - Paid Direct (Title Code 3254)

Note that the Postgraduate Researcher series is being phased out.

The policies and procedures for postdoctoral appointments are outlined in APM-390. General information is also available at the Postdoc Policy and Procedure for Postdoctoral Appointments page. It is important to note that staff in various departments on occasion may not know the details about postdoc policy, or might misinterpret postdoc policy.
