Postdoc Training at UC Davis
The Office of Graduate Studies at UC Davis provides information and policies pertaining to postdoctoral study, including:
- Postdoctoral Employment Listings
- Professional Development Programs
- Postdoc Policy and Procedure for Postdoctoral Appointments
- Postdoctoral Scholar Mentoring Guidlines
In addition, the Office of Research offers a Responsible Conduct of Research training program.
There are also a lot of useful tools (update information, view benefit enrollment, update direct deposit preferences) accessible through the My UCDavis website.
Postdoctoral Appointments
The benefits postdocs are eligible to receive, as well as the method of payment (wages vs. stipend) are determined by the appointment. There are three current types of appointments:
- Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee (Title Code 3252)
- Postdoctoral Scholar - Fellow (Title Code 3253)
- Postdoctoral Scholar - Paid Direct (Title Code 3254)
Note that the Postgraduate Researcher series is being phased out.
The policies and procedures for postdoctoral appointments are outlined in APM-390. General information is also available at the Postdoc Policy and Procedure for Postdoctoral Appointments page. It is important to note that staff in various departments on occasion may not know the details about postdoc policy, or might misinterpret postdoc policy. If you suspect a problem, discuss it first with your PI. You can also contact the PSA or the Office of Graduate Studies.
Postdoctoral Organizations
There are essentially three postdoc organizations for UC Davis postdocs:
- UC Davis Postdoctoral Scholars Association (PSA)
- UC Council of Postdoctoral Scholars (UC system wide group)
- National Postdoctoral Association (UC Davis is a sustaining member)
